Geography

Southeast Asia/Southeastern Asia is a subregion of Asia. It consists of the countries that are south of China, east of India, west of New Guinea and north of Australia. As the region lies on the intersection of geological plates, there is strong seismic and volcanic activity. Southeast Asia can be further subdivided into two geographic regions.

1. Mainland Southeast Asia, also known as Indochina:
Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Vietnam and Peninsular Malaysia

2. Maritime Southeast Asia:
 Brunei, East Malaysia, East Timor, Indonesia, Philippines, Christmas Island, and Singapore.

Religion

Major religions in this region are Islam and Buddhism, followed by Christianity. Furthermore, many other religions are found throughout the region, including many Hindu and animist-influenced practices.






Geology

Hkakabo Razi is Southeast Asia's highest mountain - 5,881 m (19,295 ft). It is located in the northern Myanmar state of Kachin.

The highest Mountain in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia is Puncak Jaya with 4,884 metres (16,024 ft). It is the only place in Southeast Asia where ice glacier can be found .
 
Next tallest peak is Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia on the island of Borneo - height of 4,095 meters (13,435 ft).
