Philippines - Our Nature is worth more than Palmoil

Please sign the Petition on this Site:

Information about Palm oil

"The expanding palm oil plantations are a tragedy for us. They destroy our native land and the forests, which puts us in complete misery". says Artiso Mandawa of the indigenous
network ALDAW on Palawan.

50.000 hectare are already plantations. According to The national development plan an addtional 304.000 hectare will be turned into palm oil plantations. The government says that they will do it in order to fight poverty and to reduce imports of oil. The politicians are telling that the land they'll be using is just wasteland or "underdeveloped".

What they don't tell is that the so called "wasteland" belongs to small farmers and indigenous people, who grow there rice and vegetables. Their very existence is bound to this place.

"if our land is taken, our families comdemned to hunger and our rights are violated, we will have to fight" explains Rubenson Batuto an indigene from the tribe of the Higaonon on Mindanao, "as natives we have the right for our land, even if this right is denied to us"

In this Place there is a great biodiversity. In the  rain forests  and the  mangrove forests which are referred to as "wastelands" by the politicians, there are 49 animal and 56 plant species which are known to be on the brink of extinction.

Please forward this petition to everyone you know and help the poor people on the Philippines, so that they won't have to suffer the same consequences as the people on Borneo.

Also check the other petitions on that site. Help protect our environment, our world. Environmental protection is more important than ever if we want to preserve the diversity of life we have on our planet. Don't let companies and greedy politicians destroy our forests, don't let them destroy the basis of existence of those living in these places.

Thanks for your help. Together we can make a difference if we raise our voices.
